Call To Action

In a bid to create more awareness around COVID-19 Government has called on all .za domain name holders that have an associated website to create a landing page with a visible link to www.sacoronavirus.co.za. For more details see section 5.1.4 of Regulation No. 43164 published on 26 March 2020.

Message Polling and Acking

The following section outlines the format of the EPP Poll request. The purpose of the Poll request is to retrieve and acknowledge messages that have been queued for a registrar. Messages are queued to present the results of pending actions such as deletions. Other messages are queued to indicate expiry of domains, or failing nameservers. Messages must be acknowledged once retrieved.

EPP Poll Request

Notes

1. The poll request will always return the oldest unread message in the message queue.

2. The poll request will provide the message and its associated ID to be used in the Poll Ack request in order to acknowledge the message.

3. It is recommended that registrars check their poll queue on a regular basis for new queued messages.

  </command>
</epp>

Possible Responses

The following are possible responses from our server.

1301: Command completed successfully; ack to deque

A response code of 1301 means that the command processed and it was found that at least 1 (one) message was in the poll queue. The details of the queued message will be contained in the response. The response will contain the <epp:msgQ id="ABC-123"> element. From this element, the id attribute value must be used in the Poll Ack Request to acknowledge the message.

Queued Poll Messages

The poll messages outlined below will be queued for registrars.

Domain Entering Suspension, Deletion and Closed Redemption Messages

Domains that have entered the Deletion Process either through manual delete requests or due to expiry, will provide several messages. The following are messages that will appear in a registrar's message queue:

1. "Domain 'exampledomain.gtld' Suspended; action 'PendingManualDeletion' in 5 days" means that a manual Domain Delete command was issued for the domain. The domain has gone through the 5 day Suspension Phase, entered the Deletion Phase and will now be deleted 5 days from the message being queued.

2. "Domain 'exampledomain.gtld' Expired; action 'PendingSuspension' in 5 days" means that the domain has reached its expiration date and expired. The domain has now entered the Suspension Phase. This phase will last a total of 5 days. After the Suspension Phase, the domain will enter the Deletion Phase. The domain may be renewed at any time during the phases.

3. "Domain 'exampledomain' Suspended; action 'PendingDeletion' in 5 days" means that the domain has reached its expiration date, expired, and has gone through the 5 day Suspension Phase. The domain has now entered the Deletion Phase. If the Deletion Phase expires, the domain will enter the Closed Redemption Phase for 20 days. The domain may be renewed at any time during the phases.

4. "Domain 'exampledomain.gtld' in Closed Redemption" means that the domain has reached its expiration date and expired, gone through the 5 day Suspension Phase, gone through the 5 day Deletion Phase, and has now entered the Closed Redemption Phase. The Closed Redemption Phase lasts a total of 20 days. During Closed Redemption the domain may be renewed at a premium. The domain may not be deleted or transferred to another registrar.

Cancellation of Domain Suspension, Deletion and Closed Redemption Messages

Domains that have entered the Deletion Process either through manual delete requests or due to expiry may be reinstated through the Domain Renew request (for expired domains ONLY) or the OPTIONAL Domain Cancel Pending Action Extension (for manually deleted domains ONLY). By reinstating the domain through the commands, the current event related to the position of the domain in the Deletion Process will be cancelled. A poll message will be queued to indicate the reinstatement of the domain. The following are messages that will appear in a registrar's message queue:

1. "Request 'PendingSuspension' canceled by another process" means that the domain had expired and has been reinstated during its Suspension Phase. The Registrar of Record will be charged a Renewal fee.

2. "Request 'PendingDeletion' canceled by another process" means that the domain had expired and has been reinstated during its Deletion Phase. The Registrar of Record will be charged a Renewal fee.

3. "Request 'PendingManualSuspension' canceled by another process" means that the domain was manually deleted and has been reinstated during its Suspension Phase. There is no charge associated.

4. "Request 'PendingManualDeletion' canceled by another process" means that the domain was manually deleted and has been reinstated during its Deletion Phase. There is no charge associated.

5. "Request 'PendingClosedRedemption' canceled by another process" means that the domain had expired and has been reinstated during its Closed Redemption Phase. The Registrar of Record will be charged a Closed Redemption Fee.

6. "Request 'PendingGracePeriodSuspension' canceled by another process" means that the domain was manually deleted during its Grace Period (first 7 days after initial registration) and reinstated during the Grace Period. There is no charge associated.
